Imphal: Tensions in Manipur have spiked after six Naga civilians were killed during attacks in Kangpokpi and Kamjong districts on October 9 and 10. The Joint Tribes Council Manipur (JTCM) condemned the violence, specifically demanding the immediate return of Ajinbou R. Ringkangmai’s head. Militants allegedly decapitated the 52-year-old and used his head as a target.

The violence targeted Makui and Tapon villages. The JTCM identified the dead as village guard Machungamang Daimai, Dibambou Ringkangmai, 48, Ajinbou R. Ringkangmai, 52, and Ramningpou Gangmei, 53. Two others, Mathangambou Chawang and Nashon Pame, suffered injuries. Separate attacks in Kamjong killed Ngachanso Ningshen and Leishisan Leishadang. Two civil defence volunteers were also wounded there, and nine houses were destroyed.

The JTCM labeled the assaults a “barbaric massacre.” They blamed Kuki armed groups, including the KNF-P, KRA, KNA-MC, KNF-N, and KNA-B, for using sophisticated weapons. The Pongringlong Youth Club reported a separate attack on Pongringlong village, where 30 armed cadres torched 17 structures. This follows a history of local violence, including the death of Chunjanglung Panmei in June.

The committee blasted the government's Suspension of Operations (SoO) framework. “The SoO has not prevented violence; it has enabled it,” the committee stated. They demanded that militants return to designated camps and surrender illegal arms. Leaders now push for a high-level probe. They warned that further state inaction makes officials complicit in the bloodshed. Official tallies show at least 32 Naga deaths in the regional conflict since February 2026.
