Imphal: The Joint Tribes Council Manipur, known as JTCM, is demanding the government set up a permanent police outpost at Gaidunluang Village. This follows an attack on September 13 where militants burned 10 houses to the ground. Families lost everything. The destruction left residents without homes or livelihoods.
JTCM General Secretary Dr. Aku Newme submitted a formal memorandum to the Home Minister. He argued that the area lacks any dedicated police presence. This security vacuum leaves villagers exposed to lawlessness and armed raids. The council claims Kuki militants carried out the firebombing. They warned that this violence is not an isolated event.
"The absence of a dedicated police presence in and around Gaidunluang had left residents vulnerable to armed attacks and lawlessness."
The council wants more than just a reactionary force. They need a permanent outpost in the Tousem Sub-division of Tamenglong district to deter future threats. They are pushing the Home Department to prioritize a feasibility assessment for the site. The group also requested immediate relief and rehabilitation funds for the victims who lost their property in the blaze. They expect the state to act fast to protect these remote settlements.
