Shillong: The Voice of the People Party rallied supporters at Polo Ground this past Saturday. Thousands turned out to back Shillong Lok Sabha by-election candidate Batskhem Myrboh. VPP president Ardent Miller Basaiawmoit claimed the crowd size signals deep public trust. He insisted the party does not bribe attendees with food or cash to fill seats.
Basaiawmoit pushed a distinct political message. He stated, "The VPP’s political approach was based on people listening to its message rather than being offered financial incentives to participate in meetings." He views party leaders as public servants. He argues that supporters should arrive voluntarily to hear the party platform.
Meanwhile, Myrboh turned his focus to the volatile Assam-Meghalaya border. He wants a fast resolution to the ongoing dispute. He warned that speed must not override the state's territorial rights. Officials finished the first phase of talks covering six areas. However, the second phase remains stuck in limbo. Myrboh demanded that negotiators use strict historical documentation to settle remaining claims. He maintains that border residents suffer from the current gridlock. Protecting land ownership remains the primary goal for the VPP.
