Shillong: Students from across Shillong joined law scholars and officials at the High Court of Meghalaya on Friday for a road safety workshop. The event, titled Learn the Rules, Respect the Road, focused on traffic enforcement and accident prevention. It drew attendees from Shillong Law College and NEHU alongside local traffic experts.
Additional SP Lovish Garg warned against reckless behavior. He noted that road users cannot exercise their individual rights at the cost of the safety of others. The session covered the legal requirements for helmets and seat belts, while detailing the dangers of drunken driving. Officials introduced the e-Challan system and discussed the legal fallout of breaking traffic laws.
Ri-Bhoi Additional SP Orville Isaac Massar and BSF DIG VS Rathore addressed the crowd on safe driving practices. Investigators shared case studies from Meghalaya to explain how crashes happen. The session also examined the role of Intelligent Traffic Management Systems, CCTV, and automatic cameras in modern policing.
The Traffic Branch set up interactive stalls to show off enforcement gear. Participants tested their knowledge in a quiz on traffic signs and local road conditions. Director of the Meghalaya State Judicial Academy, Kerpa Meida Lyngdoh Nongbri, urged attendees to engage with the demonstrations. The event finished as students took a Road Safety Ambassador Pledge to follow traffic laws.
