IIPH Shillong Researcher Wins International Award in Bali

Shillong: Dr. Deepak Rajan secured the Best Oral Presentation Award at the International Conference on Public Health 2026. The event took place in Bali, Indonesia, on August 21. Rajan serves as a One Health Research Fellow at the Indian Institute of Public Health Shillong.

His work, titled "Seroprevalence and Risk Factors of Leptospirosis in Meghalaya: An Eco-epidemiological Community-Based Cross-Sectional Study," highlights complex health threats. The study tracks how humans, animals, and the environment interact to spread disease. It pins down specific risks behind regional outbreaks.

This research was a massive team effort. It involved experts from IIPH Shillong, the ICAR Research Complex for North Eastern Hill Region in Umiam, and Christian Medical College in Vellore. The findings aim to sharpen local prevention tactics. Better data will lead to stronger control measures for Leptospirosis throughout Meghalaya.
