Shillong: The East Khasi Hills district administration pulled the trigger on a firm deadline today. The National Highways and Infrastructure Development Corporation Limited must complete a temporary road diversion by Saturday. This route connects Shillong to Dawki. It must be safe for public use before any wheels hit the pavement.
Deputy Commissioner Abhilash Baranwal says crews are currently blasting through rock to carve out a side lane. He wants more than just a path. The road must be fully protected and motorable for every commuter who needs to pass. Construction is moving fast. Baranwal expects the work to align with the timeline set by the Meghalaya government.
Deputy Chief Minister Prestone Tynsong already signaled that state officials and NHIDCL are working in lockstep on the job. The district administration is breathing down the agency's neck to guarantee they hit the target. "Our job is to follow up on that and to make sure that it happens," Baranwal said. He avoided specific technical jargon but stuck to his bottom line: safety comes first.
