Shillong-Dawki Road Project Stalls As Deadline Passes

Shillong: The Shillong-Dawki road project is hitting a wall. While the first phase from Rilbong to Baniun is finished, the second package is stalling. The job is currently half done. The National Highways and Infrastructure Development Corporation Limited status report shows physical progress reached only 51 percent by the end of June.

Financial progress sits at 46 percent. YFC Projects Pvt. Ltd. and ACE Construction are handling the 26.55-km stretch. They landed the contract in 2024 for a total cost of Rs 525 crore. The work covers road widening and the addition of a toll plaza from design kilometer 10.670 to 37.550. It relies on JICA ODA loan assistance.

The project was supposed to be done by August 7. It failed. Officials now expect completion on December 31, 2026. This massive delay follows two years of active labor. As the agency stated, the work is "Balance Work (Pkg-2)" that remains significantly behind the original schedule.
