Shillong: A critical link road behind the Meghalaya Transport Corporation building and Hotel Pegasus is falling apart. The route serves as a bypass for motorists heading to Kachari, IGP Point, and Polo. It exists to help drivers avoid the gridlock at Khyndai Lad.
Monday’s site check exposed severe damage. Crews dug up sections near Hotel Pegasus. Other parts of the road hold loose stones after recent excavation work, creating a nightmare for anyone on foot or behind the wheel. The Public Works Department has done nothing to fix it.
A mysterious No Entry sign appeared near the MTC building. It blocks the road entirely without providing any explanation to the public. Commuters are fed up with the lack of progress. They want answers. One frustrated commuter stated, "The neglect of the stretch has drawn sharp criticism from daily commuters, who questioned why the PWD has failed to intervene and maintain such an important alternative route in the city’s commercial heart."
Drivers and pedestrians demand immediate repairs. They want the authorities to explain the excavation work and open the lane to traffic as soon as possible.
