Shillong Traffic Restrictions Set for Vice President Visit

Shillong: Shillong faces major traffic shifts on Monday. Vice President CP Radhakrishnan arrives from Guwahati that afternoon. Commuters should prepare for delays. The convoy moves through the city between 1:30 pm and 6 pm.

East Khasi Hills Superintendent of Police Dr. Hari Prasanth MR warned of potential bottlenecks along Umiam, Mawlai, Mawiong, Golf Links, CRPF Junction, Polo, 4th Furlong, IGP, Kachari, and Police Bazaar. Authorities are clearing the way. Emergency vehicles, fire trucks, and ambulances will get priority passage throughout the event.

The Vice President is set to launch infrastructure work totaling over Rs 1,010 crore. Projects include the New Shillong Water Supply Scheme Phase II, a new bridge over the Umngot River, plus various road and healthcare upgrades. He will also head to the Soso Tham Auditorium for a public reception. The venue hosts a cultural programme featuring traditional performances by the Khasi, Garo, and Jaintia communities.

Police asked residents to plan ahead. "The Traffic Police has regretted the inconvenience caused to commuters and urged the public to cooperate with the traffic arrangements," officials stated. Personnel will stand watch along the entire route to manage the flow.
