Ex-IAS Officer and Son Arrested After Fatal Delhi Metro Fight

Shillong: Pawan Sharma died after a fight over a senior citizen seat inside a Delhi Metro train. He was 48. Police arrested a former Indian Administrative Service officer and his son for the killing. The violence broke out on October 8 at the Supreme Court Metro station.

Sanjay Pratap Singh and his son, Sidharth Singh, argued with Sharma. The situation turned physical. Records show Sharma was slapped and pushed. He hit his head during the scuffle. Metro staff called an ambulance to rush the victim to Lok Nayak Jai Prakash Hospital, but doctors pronounced him dead on arrival. Durga Sharma, the mother of the deceased, filed the complaint on October 9.

The FIR charges the pair under Section 105 for culpable homicide not amounting to murder and Section 3(5) for common intention under the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita. Authorities noted that Sanjay Pratap Singh previously faced arrest by the Central Bureau of Investigation in a bribery case. His son, Sidharth, works as a lawyer at the Supreme Court.

A Delhi Metro Rail Corporation official confirmed that staff pulled both men from the train once the assault became clear. The official stated, "As soon as the incident was reported, both were deboarded. The injured one was sent immediately to the hospital, whereas the other one was handed over to the police." Investigators are now working to confirm the exact medical cause of death.
