Imphal: Security forces dismantled a major cross-border narcotics network on July 22, 2026. A joint team of the Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB) and Manipur Police raided Hotel Venus in Churachandpur. They arrested Nengzatuan, also known as Tuanpi, a Myanmar-based drug kingpin from Chin State. He is a primary target in multiple cases involving the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act. These cases include the seizure of 28.22 kg of methamphetamine and 1.278 kg of heroin, valued at over ₹25 crore.
The agency claims this syndicate is responsible for smuggling drugs through Manipur, Mizoram, Assam, and Tripura. They move product into Bangladesh and across India. Intelligence-led operations have now resulted in the arrest of several key operatives, including Abdullah Ahmed of Silchar, Lalthlamuong Pulamte, Nengultinkhum Hrangngul, and Paominlen Munlo. Previous arrests include Lalhmingsanga and Thancintuang. The NCB states the network is linked to seizures totaling more than ₹53 crore.
Separate operations targeted local distribution. Police arrested 52-year-old Tinnei Thadou in the Songja Khopi village area of Churachandpur. Officers recovered 1.6 kg of suspected brown sugar from her possession. Near Mantripukhri Bazar, security forces seized 3.66 kg of suspected opium. They arrested 75-year-old Anil Das, 48-year-old Roshan Basnet, and 33-year-old Goma Karki during that raid.
Police also recovered an abandoned bag containing 328 grams of brown sugar between Parbung and Lungthulien. The suspect escaped into the forest. Regarding the ongoing campaign, officials described the situation as part of a sustained crackdown. Authorities remain focused on the supply chain. "The syndicate functioned through a well-organised network of international suppliers, cross-border couriers, transport coordinators, local facilitators, receivers and financial handlers," the NCB said in a statement.
