Shillong: State and federal enforcers are ganging up on drug syndicates in Meghalaya. They met at the Meghalaya Police Headquarters on August 2 to finalize a new strategy. NCB Deputy Director General R Sudhakar led the talks. The goal is simple: smash regional networks using financial investigations and sharp intelligence.
Traffickers have changed their game. They are now abusing postal channels, private courier services, and air cargo to move illegal loads. Officials from the Anti-Narcotics Task Force and Meghalaya Police reviewed major NDPS Act cases to spot these shifting trends. They need better coordination.
Multiple agencies are now locked in a unified push. The roster includes Customs, CGST, Income Tax, Subsidiary Intelligence Bureau, NIA, Enforcement Directorate, Directorate of Revenue Intelligence, Assam Rifles, BSF, and CRPF. District Superintendents of Police also joined the fight.
Authorities plan to deploy better tech to track syndicates across the state. They want to choke the money flow by seizing trafficking proceeds. Dealing with cross-border smuggling remains a massive hurdle. "The region’s extensive international boundaries remain a persistent challenge," officials noted during the session. The crackdown is officially underway.
