Guwahati: The Narcotics Control Bureau is shifting tactics. It wants to crush the money flow behind drug trafficking. Deputy Director General R. Sudhakar led the second-quarter meeting of the State-Level Joint Coordination Committee for 2026 in Guwahati. Officials from over a dozen agencies attended. This list included the Assam Anti-Narcotics Task Force, NIA, Customs, and the Enforcement Directorate.
The group reviewed two massive busts. Police seized 80,000 Yaba tablets in Sribhumi district and jailed three people. Agents also found 669.734 kg of ganja hidden inside 111 cargo parcels at Lokpriya Gopinath Bordoloi International Airport. Five people face charges for the airport haul.
Tracking the cash is now the priority. Officials argued that investigations must look past street-level couriers to find the syndicates pulling the strings. "Officials stressed that financial investigations should become an integral part of every NDPS case to identify and dismantle organised syndicates rather than merely arresting couriers."
Surveillance is expanding. Agencies discussed new routes and how traffickers use logistics networks to move product. They plan to use handheld baggage scanners across railway lines to catch dealers. The state also aims to reorganize the Assam Anti-Narcotics Task Force to mimic the NCB operational style. These agencies are now committed to real-time data sharing and joint interrogations to push toward a Drug-Free Assam.
