Aizawl: Mizoram Police netted over Rs 30 crore in narcotics and arrested 13 traffickers during a string of raids spanning late July. Officers busted multiple smuggling rings in separate operations across the state. They have registered eight cases under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act.
The biggest haul occurred Tuesday at Khamrang village in Kolasib district. A joint team from the CID and Kolasib police stopped a vehicle on the highway. They found 15 kg of methamphetamine tablets, worth nearly Rs 12 crore. Four locals are now in custody.
In Aizawl, police raided the New Look Restaurant at Chanmari Kawn, seizing 4.770 kg of meth worth Rs 3.82 crore. They arrested three men from Assam’s Sribhumi district. Later that day, officers at Thuampui intercepted a vehicle near Delhi Dhaba. They pulled 9.016 kg of meth, valued at Rs 7.21 crore, from the car driven by 29-year-old Malsawmtluanga of Zokhawthar. The drugs keep moving. Police are chasing the source.
Other busts hit smaller targets. Police and Assam Rifles found 21.330 grams of heroin at Khatla, worth Rs 5 lakh. One suspect from Khawzawl is detained. In Lunglei, the Border Security Force and local police grabbed 71.59 grams of heroin hidden in six soap cases at Sethlun, worth Rs 14.31 lakh. Two people were arrested.
Near the Myanmar border, a separate sweep netted more contraband. On July 21, patrol teams near Mualrawt chased two men on a scooter. The suspects ditched the bike and ran. Police recovered 6.73 kg of meth from the scooter, valued at Rs 4.75 crore. In Saitual district on July 23, officers stopped a truck and found 2 kg of morphine worth Rs 2.09 crore. They arrested the driver, 30-year-old Kabir Hussain from Assam’s Cachar district. Back on July 15, Champhai police nabbed Lalrinnunga at the Khankawn gate with 24 grams of heroin worth Rs 4.8 lakh. Officials confirm investigations are ongoing to uncover the trafficking network.
