Guwahati: Narcotics Control Bureau agents intercepted two trucks in Guwahati on October 6, uncovering 53.94 kg of methamphetamine hidden in modified fuel tanks. The drugs, valued at Rs 43 crore, likely originated in Myanmar. Officers arrested two men from Bishnupur, Manipur, on the spot.
The raid targeted secret cavities inside the vehicle tanks. Smugglers use these spots to bypass enforcement. The NCB is now chasing the full supply chain. They want to find the international suppliers, financiers, and local distributors. Agency officials confirmed the bust effectively disrupted a major trafficking push.
Separately, the Guwahati unit concluded a special Absconder Drive Fortnight. They captured six fugitives wanted in various NDPS cases. The arrestees represent a diverse range of states, including two from Assam and one each from Bihar, Madhya Pradesh, Manipur, and Tripura. The NCB stated that this drive "reflects its resolve to pursue wanted accused beyond geographical boundaries and strengthen investigations and prosecution through sustained follow-up in pending NDPS cases."
The agency coordinates with the Assam Rifles, BSF, CRPF, SSB, Customs, DRI, NIA, and ED. They also work closely with state police forces. The strategy focuses on breaking the logistical backbone of regional drug syndicates.
