Aizawl: National Investigation Agency teams hit five locations across Mizoram on August 12. These raids targeted an international methamphetamine ring. The operation stems from a November 2024 drug seizure near Barren Island in the Bay of Bengal. Andaman and Nicobar Police found six kilograms of synthetic drugs on a Myanmar boat. They also grabbed a satellite phone and other gear. Six Myanmar nationals landed in custody. They face charges under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act, 1985, and the Foreigners Act, 1946.

The NIA stepped in to re-register the case on August 11, 2025. Searches spanned thirteen sites across Tamil Nadu and Mizoram. In Mizoram, investigators found 22.38 lakh rupees in Champhai. They found another 20.73 lakh rupees in Aizawl. Agents also hauled away digital devices for forensic study. The agency stated, "further investigation is underway to establish links between the seized methamphetamine consignment and wider international drug syndicates." These digital files are vital clues. They aim to map the network and catch more suspects.
