Mizoram Police Form Special Team to Probe Teen Murder

Aizawl: Mizoram Police formed a three-member Special Investigation Team to solve the murder of a 15-year-old girl in Lunglei district. The victim lived in Mualthuam North. She vanished at 8:30 pm on August 3. Two days later, local residents discovered her body at 10:20 am on the grounds of a government middle school. The case is wide open.

Police registered the file at Lunglei police station under sections 103(1) for murder and 140(1) for kidnapping of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita. Forensic experts and investigators swarmed the school site to collect evidence immediately after the discovery. A post-mortem exam took place Thursday at Lunglei Civil Hospital. No arrests have been made.

Sub-Divisional Police Officer R. Lalthankima heads the new task force. They are currently working in the village to hunt down the killers. Inspector General of Police H. Ramthlengliana confirmed the team is tracking every lead. Authorities urged the public to avoid spreading rumors and to provide any credible information to the station.

Chief Minister Lalduhoma and Education Minister Vanlalthlana denounced the killing. The Chief Minister demanded a swift resolution to the case. In a statement, Lalduhoma said, "Those responsible must be identified and brought to justice without delay." The government expects the public to back the police as the search for the perpetrators intensifies.
