Aizawl: Mizoram police arrested two men in Lunglei district on August 20 for the murder of a 15-year-old girl. The victim went missing from her home in Mualthuam North village on August 3. Her body turned up two days later, hidden in bushes at the government-run Mualthuam North Middle School. The discovery triggered a massive local search.
A Special Investigation Team led by the Lunglei Sub-Divisional Police Officer took over the case. Officers hauled in several suspects for intense questioning. They tracked phone records and analyzed forensic data collected from the crime scene. The two suspects, both locals from Mualthuam North, cracked under pressure. They confessed to the killing on Thursday before the SIT.
Police have shoved the men into judicial custody. Authorities refuse to release specific details about the girl's death or the evidence gathered. They claim transparency now might derail the court proceedings. "The case remains under investigation, and the SIT is continuing to examine evidence and pursue related leads," police said.
Officials are now urging the public to stay calm. They want the community to cooperate rather than seek vigilante justice. The investigation drags on.
