Aizawl: Mizoram authorities wiped out a massive stockpile of illegal drugs on September 30. The Excise and Narcotics Department incinerated narcotics valued at 11.82 crore at the Bethani Multipurpose Farm in Phunchawng near Aizawl. This burn involved 106 separate cases recently cleared by the courts.

Commissioner Z Lalhmangaiha managed the operation. They followed the legal requirements set by the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act. The incinerator consumed 3.35 kg of heroin worth 10.71 crore, 19.43 kg of ganja valued at 9.71 lakh, and 1.98 kg of methamphetamine worth 19.85 lakh. Workers also destroyed 89.9 kg of codeine-based cough syrup worth 10.57 lakh.

Lalhmangaiha credited the cleanup to the joint work of the Mizoram Police, the Central Young Mizo Association, and various state agencies. "The destruction reflected the collective efforts of the Excise and Narcotics Department, Mizoram Police, the Central Young Mizo Association and other agencies involved in the fight against drugs," he stated. He wants public support to keep growing so the volume of seized narcotics eventually drops to near zero.
