Aizawl: Mizoram Police launched a massive crackdown on drug trafficking, seizing over Rs 66 crore worth of narcotics and arresting six suspects in recent operations. The largest haul hit Saitual district, where police intercepted a truck carrying 72.514 kg of methamphetamine worth approximately Rs 58.01 crore. The drugs were hidden in a secret cavity above the driver's cabin in a vehicle traveling from Manipur toward Aizawl.
The truck driver escaped and remains at large. Police arrested two passengers, Kaidul Islam Laskar, 21, and Rafik Uddin Barbhuiya, 32, both from Assam's Hailakandi district. Officials registered a case at the Saitual Police Station under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act to track the network.
Additional operations in Champhai and Aizawl netted another Rs 8 crore in contraband. The Champhai Special Task Force seized 9.79 kg of meth worth Rs 7.83 crore on August 1. Officers arrested the driver, 32-year-old Vanlalruatsaka from Melbuk village. On the same day, the task force caught Vanlalmuana, 27, of Myanmar, at the Khankawn check gate with 118 grams of heroin valued at Rs 23.6 lakh. He faces charges under the NDPS Act and the Immigration and Foreigners Act.
Finally, police in Aizawl intercepted a pickup truck at Zemabawk carrying 241.21 grams of heroin inside 20 soap cases. Officers arrested Hussain Ahmed Laskar, 23, and Noor Ahmed Laskar, 34, from Cachar, Assam. Investigators are probing whether these suspects link to broader syndicates near the border. As one official statement noted, they are working "to identify the source and intended destination of the seized narcotics."
