Aizawl: Mizoram police cracked down on smuggling operations this week. Authorities confiscated methamphetamine, dry areca nuts, and hundreds of litres of illegal booze. The seizures occurred across Serchhip, Khawzawl, and Lunglei districts.
A task force consisting of the Narcotics Control Bureau, the District Special Branch, and the CID nabbed 14.26 kilograms of methamphetamine on Wednesday. They pulled roughly 1.5 lakh tablets from a suspect named Lalpanliana at Tuichang Bridge. The stash holds a street value of Rs 11.4 crore. The Narcotics Control Bureau stated, "The NCB has launched further investigation into the case."
Officers hit the road early Thursday. Khawzawl police stopped a truck near Chawngtlai village to find 180 bags of dry areca nuts. Each bag weighed 80 kilograms, totaling Rs 36 lakh in value. Investigators handed the truck and the load to the Customs Preventive Force in Champhai.
Lunglei officials rounded out the week with a liquor bust. On Monday, the Lunglei District Special Branch joined forces with local vigilantes at Hauruang. They seized 633.3 litres of locally made liquor from two individuals.
