Aizawl: Mizoram Education Minister Vanlalthlana wants better safety. He demanded tougher prevention steps and more insurance use to stop families from going broke during fires or landslides. The minister spoke Wednesday at a two-day national seminar in Aizawl titled Fire and Financial Management for Disaster Resilience.

Government cash cannot fix every disaster. People need to secure their own financial safety nets before the ground shifts or the flames arrive. Prevention beats recovery. He told attendees that forest fire prevention techniques must improve in rural zones while urban areas need stricter construction standards to keep homes standing.

Mizoram University’s Centre for Disaster Management joined Oil India Limited to host the event on October 13 and 14. They held the talks to mark the International Day for Disaster Risk Reduction. Experts and students filled the room to talk about fire safety, natural gas, and how to manage money when disaster strikes. Vanlalthlana issued a direct challenge to the crowd: "apply their knowledge and expertise to benefit the government and the public."
