Guwahati: A high school student is dead and his friend is fighting for his life following a brutal assault in Assam. Dhanjit Kalita and his friend Bishal, both from Athgaon, were riding a two-wheeler to visit Durga Puja pandals in Rangia when they crashed at Borka Panitema. Instead of offering aid, onlookers turned violent.

The victim's family claims the crowd beat the pair into critical condition. "Two lads from the village had gone out to see Puja when their two-wheeler was involved in an accident. However, the people around started hitting them, leaving them in a bad shape. One of them died as a result," the family stated.

The killing sparked immediate outrage in the community. Over 100 residents swarmed the Rangia police station to demand justice. They want the attackers behind bars.

Police have already detained two men from Panitema, identified as Dipak Kalita and Mukut Deka. Investigators are now checking if others joined the attack. They are also looking into claims of moral policing. Officers continue to hunt for more suspects while the investigation pushes forward.
