Guwahati: Assam police hauled in five suspected land brokers following a crackdown on a fraud ring operating out of Rangia. Officers identified the suspects as Yasin Ali, Habibur Rahman, Amjad Ali, Riazul Haque, and Mirajul Muttakin. Riazul and Mirajul are the sons of Yasin Ali. Authorities tagged Yasin, Habibur, and Amjad as the primary operators of the scheme.
The arrests turned violent. Police officer Mukuta K suffered injuries while trying to grab one of the men during a late-night raid. Officers stated the group allegedly peddled agricultural and government land to various business outfits near the Rangia-Nalbari border. The illegal deals involved several bighas of property across the Udiyana and Bhatkuchi areas. The gang preyed on vulnerable families, moving farmland out of their hands through fake transactions.
This operation stems from the earlier arrest of Aidul Islam. Police found 169 forged seals and signatures in his possession. Investigators believe he made fake papers for land transfers. Officials used intel from his interrogation to track down the network. As police look for more suspects, they are picking apart the illicit deals. One official noted, "Police said information obtained during his interrogation led to the investigation into the alleged network of land brokers and subsequent arrests." The probe remains active as detectives hunt for additional members of the racket.
