Guwahati: A woman is dead after a violent confrontation inside a hotel near the Rangia railway station in Assam. Melani Guria traveled from Chennai to stay in Room 111 with two friends. The suspect, Abhijit Kindo, booked the adjacent room, number 110. He arrived from Rowta to meet her.

Guria entered Kindo’s room late that night. Kindo grabbed a pair of scissors and stabbed her repeatedly, inflicting fatal wounds. The attacker then tried to take his own life. Police arrived shortly after to find the gruesome scene. They have since detained Kindo and opened an investigation into exactly how the murder unfolded.

The victim's mother, Mariam Guria, confirmed the pair had dated for six months while living in Chennai. The families had discussed a potential marriage but asked for a waiting period before finalizing the union. Distraught by the news, the mother is now calling for justice. Regarding the perpetrator, she told reporters, "the family demanded the death penalty for Kindo." Detectives continue to scour the evidence to pin down a motive for the killing.
