Guwahati: Assam Police Special Task Force agents rounded up six people in Guwahati for running a massive mule bank account fraud. The arrests started October 28 after federal agencies tipped off local police. Authorities suspect the network funnels money to Pakistan Intelligence Operatives.

The operation began when Sonitpur District Police flagged suspicious activity in a State Bank of India account held by Marjina Begum. Records show the account moved several lakhs of rupees between June 22 and August 5, 2026. The money vanished shortly after every deposit. This pattern triggered a full investigation.

Investigators tracked the flow to 22-year-old Mofijul Haque and 19-year-old Himangshu Das. The STF swarmed the suspects on October 28, seizing mobile phones and sensitive documents. "The money was allegedly withdrawn almost immediately after each deposit, raising suspicion of its use in illicit financial activities," police stated regarding the movement of funds.

Haque and Das spilled the names of their associates under questioning. This led to a second wave of arrests. Rakib Hussain, 34, fell on October 29. Iftar Hussain, 25, and 20-year-old Arman Azuz Hoque followed on October 30. Police are currently picking apart the rest of the network to see how deep the ties go.
