Guwahati: A former principal of Barama Higher Secondary School faces allegations of running a massive job racket. Anupama Devi and her sister, Dipika Devi, allegedly pocketed Rs 18 crore from unemployed youths. They promised government jobs across various departments. These positions were supposedly under the Bodoland Territorial Council during Pramod Boro’s tenure as Chief Executive Member.
Dhrubajyoti Haloi filed the complaint at the Dispur police station in Guwahati. He was a student of Anupama Devi. The scam targeted 70 to 80 victims from Barama, Patacharkuchi, Nalbari, and nearby areas. Suspects allegedly leveraged family ties to convince victims of their influence. Anupama Devi’s son is married to the sister-in-law of Pramod Boro.
Haloi claimed he was forced to process the cash. Money went through his State Bank of India account at the Dispur branch. He stated, “Anupama Devi encouraged him to die.” He also received a cut of the proceeds. Despite the payouts, the accused failed to secure any government work.
Dispur police registered case number 0617 on August 20. Officers invoked sections 316(2), 318(4), 336(3), and 61(2) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita. Sub-Inspector Dipankar Chutia is leading the investigation. Along with the two sisters, police named Pulen Chandra Goswami, Chakradhar Barman, and Banjit Roy as suspects. Authorities have yet to prove these allegations in court.
