Assam Police Arrest Six for Extortion and Fraud in Nagaon

Guwahati: Assam police hauled in six suspected conmen during a sweep of the Nagaon district. Officers acting in Juria, Dhing, and Jajari made the arrests to break up local extortion rackets. The crackdown aims to clear out middlemen who trade on the promise of fixing criminal cases.

Police in Juria took Atikur Rahman, known as Teddy, Fakker Uddin, known as Fakkue, and Abul Kalam into custody. These three allegedly pocketed cash by claiming they could settle FIRs. They supposedly colluded with officers to bury complaints or drop investigations entirely. The scheme relied on tricking locals out of their money.

Dhing police caught two other suspects named Harmuz Ali and Inchan Ali for separate cheating schemes. Meanwhile, officers from Jajari arrested a man named Sariful Islam. The district is cleaning house. Investigators are now working to see if these men operated as part of a larger network or worked alone.
