Guwahati: Assam police raided a home in No. 1 Tupamari village in Kamrup district to break up an alleged online gaming and chip-selling ring. Officers targeted the residence of Rafiqul Islam, the son of Mubark Ali, acting on a tip. The raid yielded 69 ATM cards and 63 bank passbooks, including 58 issued by the Bank of India.
Police found a phone running a suspicious app named ChipSeller. The device held logs of gaming chip sales and purchases. Total earnings reached Rs 3,87,499. Investigators also found QR codes, UPI data, and APK files labeled ChipSeller and base. WhatsApp and Telegram threads on the device detailed various chip transactions and payout accounts. Police said, "The seized digital and financial material is being examined to trace the flow of money, determine the scale of the alleged online gaming operation and identify other individuals who may be linked to the network."
Boko-Chaygaon CDSP Jankishore Gogoi led the operation alongside Nagarbera station chief Harjit Das and Tupamari outpost head Champak Kalita. This move follows a string of anti-narcotics sweeps across the Boko-Chaygaon region involving stations in Chaygaon, Goroimari, Mandira, Samaria, and Sonatoli. Detectives are now pouring over the evidence to map the financial network and identify suspects involved in the scheme.
