Geopolitical Tension and Earnings Reports to Shape Stock Market

Shillong: Geopolitical friction between the US and Iran, volatile crude oil prices, and a packed earnings calendar will dictate stock market movement this week. Investors are watching closely. US midterm elections and incoming macroeconomic data will also pull the strings of market sentiment.

Ajit Mishra of Religare Broking expects a heavy focus on the September quarter earnings season. “Markets will remain focused on the September quarter earnings season, key economic data releases and global developments this week,” Mishra said. Analysts will hunt for signs of revenue growth, margin resilience, and domestic demand. Banking reports will show credit growth, while auto and industrial sectors will paint a picture of domestic consumption. Elevated crude prices threaten corporate margins and feed imported inflation.

Big companies report this week. Investors will track M&M, Bajaj Finserv, ITC, Dabur, Apollo Hospitals, BSE, Cummins India, and Hindalco. Other names on the list include Lupin, NSE, State Bank of India, Apollo Tyres, LIC, ONGC, and Titan. Reliance Industries stock hits the floor on Monday following a record quarterly profit of Rs 29,550 crore. That figure marks a 33.8 per cent jump from last year. Jio Platforms also logged a 13.7 per cent profit increase to Rs 8,389 crore for the September 2026 quarter.

Siddhartha Khemka from Motilal Oswal Financial Services highlighted the US PMI and India’s HSBC PMI as critical markers. Meanwhile, Ponmudi R of Enrich Money warned that Middle East instability remains the primary external risk. He noted that if US Treasury yields climb or the dollar stays strong, foreign appetite for Indian stocks could wither. Last week, the BSE Sensex rose 1,335.7 points, or 1.82 per cent, while the NSE Nifty gained 453.1 points, or 2 per cent.
