Shillong: India and Bangladesh officials held a series of high-level meetings in Dhaka this week to strengthen bilateral cooperation. On August 31, Indian High Commissioner Dinesh Trivedi sat down with Rashed Al Mahmud Titumir, an adviser to the Bangladesh Prime Minister for finance and planning. They focused on building stronger ties between the citizens of both nations.
Trivedi also met with Bangladesh Minister of Commerce, Industries, Textiles and Jute Khandaker Abdul Muktadir on August 25. The two discussed trade, investment, and how the private sector can steer economic growth. The Indian High Commission noted, "High Commissioner emphasised the important role of businesses and the private sector in steering the economic partnership for mutually beneficial trade and investment."
Environmental cooperation took center stage in Mongolia on August 24. Union Minister for Environment, Forest and Climate Change Bhupender Yadav met with his counterpart, Abdul Awal Mintoo, during the UNCCD COP17 session in Ulaanbaatar. They hashed out plans for mangrove conservation, land erosion control, and tracking Bengal tigers across the Sundarbans. They also evaluated existing greening memorandums of understanding for better implementation.
Diplomatic warmth remains high. President Droupadi Murmu sent a note to Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir on August 21 to mark his start as the President of Bangladesh. Murmu cited the nations' shared history and pushed for deeper collaboration in energy, technology, connectivity, health, and education.
