Agartala: West Tripura MP Biplab Kumar Deb is heading to New York. The former Tripura Chief Minister will join India’s Parliamentary Delegation for the 81st session of the United Nations General Assembly. He stays in the city from October 5 to 9. This trip marks a major international appearance for a sitting Lok Sabha member from Tripura.

The session opened September 8, 2026. The official theme is "Restoring Trust, Managing Transformation: A United Nations That Delivers for All." India plans to push hard on several fronts. New Delhi wants to focus on development for the Global South, climate finance, and counter-terrorism. Leaders also intend to address maritime security, artificial intelligence, and peacekeeping reforms. The goal is making the UN more effective against modern threats.

Deb is not new to global stage work. He joined a team led by Rajya Sabha Deputy Chairman Harivansh in Bhutan this past May. This New York visit adds sustainable development and emerging technologies to his list of diplomatic priorities. It serves as a key piece of India’s push for multilateral cooperation on the world stage.
