Agartala: Cuban Ambassador Juan Carlos Marsán Aguilera traveled to Tripura on Thursday to attend rallies marking the birth centenary of Fidel Castro. The CPI (M) organized the events in Sabroom and Agartala. Former MP and CITU president Sankar Prasad Datta led the team that met the Ambassador at the Agartala airport. First Secretary Mike Diaj Perej accompanied him.

Aguilera spoke about the 1960 meeting between Castro and Prime Minister Jawaharlal Nehru in New York. They aimed to create a new economic order. The Ambassador told the crowd that India remains a major power. "India continues to play this role today. It is a key player in international politics and supports the Global South through cooperation," Aguilera said.

The diplomat touted the partnership between the two nations. Cuba is a founding member of the India-led International Solar Alliance and supports the Coalition for Disaster Resilient Infrastructure. He praised the ITEC scholarship program, which trained over 700 Cuban professionals in fields like artificial intelligence, biotechnology, and agriculture.

India acts as the pharmacy of the world. It provides Cuba with active pharmaceutical ingredients and raw materials for essential medicines. The Ambassador confirmed that Cuba wants to deepen these bilateral ties in the future.
