Imphal: India and Myanmar are currently holding talks to fix a long-standing, undemarcated section of their shared border in Manipur. Ministry of External Affairs spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal confirmed the ongoing discussions in New Delhi on Tuesday, August 4. He addressed questions about a possible land swap to settle the boundary.
"There are certain areas on the border which are yet to be settled. Discussions on those sectors are ongoing," Jaiswal stated. He declined to confirm if a formal territorial exchange is part of the final plan.
The diplomatic effort follows a July 17 report from The Diplomat. That report cited a May 26, 2026, government document suggesting a trade of roughly 1.4 square miles of land. This deal would finalize demarcation between boundary pillars 65 and 68. The stretch covers 2.8 kilometres in Manipur's Chandel district, sitting right against the Kabaw Valley in Myanmar's Sagaing Region. The document suggested finishing the work within three months.
The full border spans over 1,600 kilometres. It cuts through Arunachal Pradesh, Nagaland, Manipur, and Mizoram. Most of this line is settled. A few problem spots remain. These gaps force the two nations to keep talking.
