Guwahati: Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma accepted a rare 120-year-old land record on August 19. The presentation occurred at the new Integrated District Commissioner’s Office in Rupnagar, Guwahati. District Commissioner Swapneel Paul handed over the Jamabandi of La-Kheraj Patta No. 1 to the Chief Minister. The event marked the official opening of the new office building.

This document dates to 1904-05. It covers the Kamakhya Pahar revenue village within the Ramsa Rani mauza of the old undivided Kamrup district. Hand-written with a quill, the record details land ownership held by the Kamakhya Devalaya. Bishnu Kanta Sarma Doloi and Abhaya Kanta Sarma Doloi are listed as representatives for the temple in the text. Records experts kept this in the Mahafeshkhana of the Kamrup Metropolitan district administration.

The file tracks early administration in the Nilachal Hills following the 1886 Assam Land and Revenue Regulation. Experts view it as one of the oldest surviving Devottar Grant Jamabandi documents. Sarma highlighted the historical significance of the find. He called it a "priceless old land document" that anchors the spiritual identity and heritage of the region. The Chief Minister stressed that protecting such archives is a mandatory duty to ensure history survives for future generations.
