Guwahati: Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma announced the launch of Asom Mala 4.0 on Wednesday. This new phase targets an 800 kilometer expansion of rural roads. The project comes with a Rs 10,000 crore price tag. It aims to bridge the gap between remote villages and the state's commercial hubs.

Sarma wants to integrate isolated areas into the broader economic network. The initiative builds on previous road programs to solve lingering last-mile connectivity issues. Better paths mean goods and people move faster. Rural access to public services and markets will increase. "The government intends to extend road connectivity across Assam and bring villages closer to the state's expanding economic network," Sarma said.

This work is part of a larger state strategy. Officials expect the construction to drive investment, trade, and tourism. It links underserved communities directly to administrative centers. Officials view this as the primary engine for future infrastructure growth in the region.
