Guwahati: Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma opened a new reinforced cement concrete bridge in Jalukbari today. The structure connects Bamunorjan Road to Forest School Road under the Mukhyamantrir Unnata Pakipoth Aachoni program. It cost more than Rs 2.56 crore to build. This span measures 32.40 metres long.

The concrete bridge replaces an old, rotted wooden crossing. Thousands of commuters rely on this route daily. Residents in Garigaon, Baripara, Bhakunda, Jeutipara, and Noapara will see immediate improvements in travel. The upgrades aim to fix connectivity gaps and move services faster.

Sarma set a clear goal for his administration. "The Assam government is working to upgrade more than 1,000 wooden and dilapidated bridges across the state into all-weather RCC bridges," he said. The initiative prioritizes public safety and ensures that state welfare schemes reach remote areas without delay.
