Centre Sends Rs 3,552 Crore Tax Windfall to Assam

Guwahati: The Union Government released an extra Rs 3,552 crore to Assam as tax devolution. The money hit state accounts on August 1. Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma immediately signaled that the cash influx will target infrastructure projects to drive growth and state resilience.

Sarma took to X to broadcast the news. He thanked Prime Minister Narendra Modi for the support. The infusion proves the Centre is committed to long-term development in the region. He also credited Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman for advancing local priorities.

Sarma said the additional funds would enable the state government to "make greater investments in infrastructure projects aimed at accelerating the state's growth and improving resilience." Officials expect the money to build a more stable economic future. The funding aims to bolster expansion efforts across the state.
