Guwahati: An Assam traffic constable faces accusations of beating men, women, and a two-year-old child with an iron rod. The violence erupted Monday evening in the Gandhinagar area of Mariani. Tensions flared at a rental property owned by Imtiaz Hussain after a dispute over a water pump switch broke out between two tenant families. One of the residents is the daughter of Anil Tai, a traffic cop stationed at the Mariani Police Station.
Witnesses claim Tai stormed into the home of Husnara Khatun with his wife and daughter to settle the score. The group allegedly swung the iron rod at the occupants. The victims suffered injuries during the confrontation. They fled to the Mariani Police Station later that night to file a formal complaint. They provided video footage documenting the assault.
Victims claim the police ignored the evidence. The injured women, still clutching the toddler, waited for hours on station grounds. They allege the duty officer refused to step out of his room to process the paperwork or order medical exams. The victims stated, "the emergency duty officer allegedly did not come out of his room to receive the complaint properly or facilitate medical examinations of the injured persons." Police sent the bloodied family home without a checkup.
