Guwahati: A knife-wielding attacker targeted an e-rickshaw driver on T.R. Phukan Road in Bongaigaon town. The victim sustained multiple injuries during the confrontation. Bystanders and emergency responders rushed the driver to a local hospital for urgent medical care.
The assailant bolted from the scene immediately after the assault. The victim told authorities that the man behind the attack was a drug addict. Officials have not independently verified this claim. The suspect remains at large while police gather more information about the incident.

A separate disaster struck the region Sunday night when a massive fire tore through the Dangtal market in the Chirang district. The blaze destroyed over 15 shops, mostly garment stores, after a cooking gas cylinder exploded. Fire crews from both Chirang and Bongaigaon battled the flames to stop the spread.
Investigators currently suspect a short circuit triggered the fire. While the property loss is estimated at several lakh rupees, officials have yet to release a final damage report.
