Assam Police Probe Assault at Illegal Nagaon Ticket Counter

Guwahati: A man travelling with his family faced a violent assault in Nagaon, Assam. Akram Uddin, a resident of Juria, stopped near the Haibargaon Police Outpost. Rahat Matabbar confronted him there. Matabbar allegedly operates an unauthorized bus ticket counter in the area.

The trouble started when Uddin refused to buy tickets from Matabbar. The attacker dragged and beat the victim while his family watched in horror. A patrolling police team arrived at the scene shortly after the attack. Matabbar fled the area before officers could take him into custody. Authorities have not provided updates on the investigation or a suspect arrest.

This violent episode brought scrutiny to illegal ticketing operations near the Morigaon bus stand. Locals claim these counters run on a commission model. They pressure night bus passengers to use specific services. One resident stated: "The incident has drawn attention to the alleged activities of several unauthorised bus ticket counters operating near the Morigaon bus stand in the Haibargaon area of Nagaon."

Residents want the district administration to shut down these rogue booths. They demand safer travel conditions for families and night passengers. Pressure remains on police to clean up the area around the outpost and stop the harassment.
