Guwahati: A Bihu troupe suffered a brutal beating Saturday, October 24, at a Durga Puja celebration. The Hindustan Club hosted the event in the Sribhumi district of Assam. Trouble began when a group of locals confronted the performers. They claimed Assamese songs had no place in the Barak Valley. The situation turned violent quickly.

Every member of the troupe sustained serious injuries. The attackers did not stop at hitting the dancers. They smashed traditional Bihu musical instruments and stole others. One young troupe member reported that their gold chain was snatched during the scuffle.

The club invited the performers to the stage for a cultural program. Now, the incident has sparked widespread outrage over the safety of artists in the region. Supporters demanded immediate accountability for the attackers. A public statement urged Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma to launch a thorough investigation. They want to ensure the accused are punished in accordance with the law.

Authorities have not yet released the identities of the attackers. It remains unclear if police have made any arrests or filed formal charges regarding the assault. The allegations await independent verification. Officials have yet to provide a complete report on the confrontation.
