Guwahati: Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma announced plans on November 3 to create a Ropeway Development Authority. This body will operate as a partnership between the state and the Centre. The federal government will hold a 51 per cent stake. Assam keeps the remaining 49 per cent.

The authority will oversee five specific transit corridors. These routes target major religious sites, tourist spots, and transport hubs. Sarma detailed the plan following a state cabinet meeting held the same day. The projects aim to streamline travel and access.

One ropeway will link Kamakhya Railway Station to Maa Kamakhya Devalaya in Guwahati. A second line will connect Khanapara to Guwahati Railway Station. In the Barak Valley, the government proposed a route from Ganganagar to Bhuban Pahar. Dima Hasao will host a connection between Hempeupet Peak and the Jatinga Bird Watching Point. A fifth project will span from Agnigarh to Bhairab Mandir in Sonitpur district. State officials expect these routes to improve connectivity, stating the authority will be "responsible for taking forward the five projects under the Centre-state partnership."
