Kohima: Inter-state bus services between Manipur, Nagaland, and Assam along National Highway-2 kept rolling for the third consecutive day this Monday. The transport link, which sat dormant for over three years, resumed operations last week. Officials confirmed the route is holding steady.
A convoy of five buses and seven Winger vehicles departed Imphal on Monday afternoon. They carried more than 250 passengers, including women and children, toward Dimapur and Guwahati. The departure faced a brief delay after a flare-up between two groups at Taphou village in Senapati District. Local administration and public cooperation contained the incident quickly. Both sides agreed to keep the peace.
Authorities deployed Road Opening Parties and extra security across the highway to guarantee safe passage. Officials stated the government remains focused on protecting civilians and fostering regional stability. The heavy ridership proves that the public trusts these state-led peace efforts.
About 100 passengers arrived safely at the Khuman Lampak Inter-State Bus Terminus in Imphal on Monday afternoon after leaving Guwahati on Sunday. Travelers reported a smooth trip. Ngangbam Biren of Thoubal District felt the ride was a success. He noted, "The whole journey from Guwahati to Imphal was pleasant and peaceful."
Okram Sunil Kumar Singh, also from Thoubal District, echoed this sentiment. He urged others to use the state service, thanking both the Naga and Kuki communities for ensuring safe travel. This transit restart follows an August 8 announcement by Chief Minister Yumnam Khemchand Singh, Deputy Chief Minister Nemcha Kipgen, and MLA Haokholet Kipgen in Kangpokpi. Ethnic violence since May 3, 2023, had previously turned NH-2 and NH-37 into ghost roads, choking off the flow of people and goods.
