Guwahati: The Subansiri River suffered a massive drop in water discharge early Tuesday, November 3. Flow rates crashed to a meager 299 cubic metres per second. This is the lowest level on record. The river normally sustains at least 3,000 cumecs during the dry season. This sudden change represents a 90 percent reduction from standard flows.

Readings eventually crept back up to 523 cumecs later in the day. The river remains well below its expected output despite this small recovery. Experts describe the event as an "unprecedented" occurrence in the river’s history. No one has seen a decline this steep before.

Authorities have not specified a cause for the dramatic drop. Official reports confirm the flow patterns changed suddenly on Tuesday morning. Observers await further data to explain the anomaly. The river continues to run far below its normal dry-season volume.
