Shillong: The Department of Nanotechnology at North-Eastern Hill University held a workshop today. The event marked Nanotechnology Day. It focused on Nano-Assisted Electrochemical Sensing Platforms. Experts and students gathered in Shillong to examine new sensing technology. The department partnered with Class One Systems S&T Pvt. Ltd. to run the sessions.
NEHU Vice-Chancellor-in-Charge Prof. S. K. Barik opened the event. He challenged scientists to move beyond academic papers. “Research should not just be paper- and publication-based; the goal of research should be to develop products that can be used by society,” Prof. Barik said. He pushed researchers to turn patents into goods that help people. He also requested more teamwork between basic sciences and tech fields.
Dr. Shruti Shukla, head of the department, opened the floor. She linked physics, chemistry, and engineering to biotechnology. Her team is looking at how nanoscience changes medicine, farming, and electronics. She wants more students to understand the field.
Industry and academic experts led the technical talk. Prof. Arup Jyoti Baruah from NEIGRIHMS detailed how nanotechnology aids healthcare. Technical Director Anshuman Mallick of Class One Systems discussed sensing platforms. Animegh Mondal ran a live demo of the gear.
