Guwahati: Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma ordered the swift completion of Rs 36,000 crore in state infrastructure projects on Tuesday, November 3. The review meetings took place at the Jyoti-Bishnu International Kala Kendra in Khanapara, Guwahati. Officials and contractors listened as Sarma demanded quality results.
The PWD Health and Education division oversees 186 projects worth Rs 20,000 crore. These include medical colleges, universities, and nursing schools. Sarma checked the status of these sites and told agencies to fix any bottlenecks. He noted that construction must meet high standards.
A second meeting covered 308 building projects costing Rs 16,000 crore. The list includes District Commissioner offices, stadiums, and the new Assam Legislative Assembly complex. Other works involve the Guwahati Police Commissionerate, the Rang Ghar beautification, and improvements to the Assam State Zoo and Botanical Garden. MLA hostels in Dibrugarh are also on the list.
Sarma demanded total accountability from the staff. He told the PWD and contractors to keep a close watch on every phase of work. "He further made it clear that construction quality must not be compromised and instructed officials to strengthen oversight mechanisms to ensure that all projects meet the required standards." Every project worth more than Rs 10 crore faced intense scrutiny to guarantee that work finishes on time.
