Guwahati: Fifty women from forest villages near Kulsi started a 26-day business training course Monday. The Entrepreneurship Development Institute of India kicked off the project at the Nowgaon JFMC Community Hall in the Kamrup district. Trainers will focus on food processing and agro-based work. The goal is to help these women build independent incomes.

This Micro Entrepreneurship Development Programme offers more than just classroom lessons. It includes post-training support for Udyam Registration. Participants will also receive hands-on guidance for branding, packaging, and marketing their products.

Kulsi Range Forest Officer Kankanjyoti Kaushik pushed for the initiative. He believes business training is a fix for forest reliance. "Developing alternative livelihood opportunities could help diversify household incomes and reduce dependence on forest resources," he said. EDII Coordinator Rajdeep Bora hosted the opening while social worker Pradip Rabha noted the untapped value of local banana fibers for weaving.

Master Trainer Malamoni Hazarika spoke about her 30 years in the food industry to motivate the group. Ajay Chinal from the Jupangbari Joint Forest Management Committee anchored the event. Officials hope the training leads to commercial success in the Kamrup West Division villages.
