Guwahati: Kamrup District Commissioner Deba Kumar Mishra and Palasbari MLA Himangshu Shekhar Baishya inspected Chandubi Lake on Tuesday, November 3. They met with local residents to identify pressing challenges and map out plans for conservation and tourism growth. The delegation included Palasbari Sub-District Commissioner Bhaskar Jyoti Kalita and West Kamrup Divisional Forest Officer Subodh Talukdar. Forest officers Ratul Pathak and Kankan Kaushik joined the group, alongside local student leaders, social workers, and nature enthusiasts.
Students from Beli Academy in Barihat greeted the officials with traditional phulam gamosas. Members of the Chandubi Nauka Samiti took the delegation on a boat ride to showcase the waterbody. The timing is deliberate. Winter brings migratory birds to the lake, drawing in crowds of visitors. The area serves as a critical ecological hub for the region.
Baishya emphasized the need to balance growth with environmental protection. He aims to boost the region while keeping the lake healthy. "Protecting the lake's ecological character while developing it as a tourist destination was a priority," Baishya said. The MLA and the district commissioner documented local feedback during the visit. They promised to pursue specific steps to resolve community issues. Residents welcomed the direct involvement of their elected officials in the effort to preserve the site.
