Aizawl: Mizoram wants a one percent slice of India's GDP by 2047. Chief Minister Lalduhoma announced the target at the Youth Entrepreneurship Summit 2026, held at Woodland Hill in Zonuam. The state currently holds 0.9 percent of the national population but generates only 0.1 percent of the GDP. Officials now aim for a per capita income of Rs 16 lakh.

The government is pushing hard at the grassroots level. It offers support prices for crops and insurance for farmers and livestock. The Bana Kaih CM Special Package provides cash for new ventures and expansion projects. Larger businesses can tap into specific loan components. Lalduhoma claims the program avoids politics. He said, "assistance under Bana Kaih is extended solely to deserving projects, without favouritism or discrimination." So far, no one has defaulted on these loans.

Innovation remains a priority. The state created an Innovation Facility Centre and Innovation Awards. It also launched a Venture Capital Fund and the Mizoram Start-up Mission. Young entrepreneurs are already building food-processing units with local harvest. Officials issued permits this year to make fruit beer from native produce.

The government wants residents to buy local goods to keep money in the state. Rules are in place to ensure public stores prioritize Mizoram products. Plans are also underway to form a state bank. A committee is currently vetting the proposal to improve credit access for local business owners.
